Gaza: As starvation deepens in Gaza, Afeef Nessouli, a volunteer with the medical aid organization Glia International, has harshly criticized the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), the US-backed group responsible for distributing aid.
Speaking from al-Qarara near Rafah in southern Gaza, Nessouli accused the GHF of weaponizing food supplies since the group began managing aid deliveries, describing the current system as disorganized and driven by malevolent intent.
Nessouli explained that since Israel recently permitted limited aid into the enclave, the GHF has failed to successfully distribute assistance. He recounted a chaotic morning at distribution sites, where desperate Palestinians faced what he characterized as targeted obstruction amid extreme hunger. “The GHF has not been successful to this day and has even seemed to target Palestinians when they are extremely hungry as they try to get aid,” he said, highlighting the organization’s failure to meet urgent needs.
This sharp condemnation builds on his earlier remarks that local NGOs refuse to cooperate with the GHF’s mechanism, which contrasts starkly with the previously effective, UN-backed aid distribution system. Nessouli stressed that the current approach lacks the experience and coordination needed in a crisis where “there is no room for mistakes.” He warned that the breakdown in aid delivery risks worsening an already catastrophic humanitarian emergency, as Gaza’s population endures months of siege, starvation, and displacement.
